St. Kateri Tekakwitha: Lily of the Mohawks is Patroness of the Environment

Lily of the Mohawks is Now St. Kateri Tekakwitha (2020 Update). We decided to update this post, which we originally published eleven years ago in August 2009, to note that Kateri Tekakwitha is now a saint. Actually, she’s been a saint since 2012 but we’re nearly a decade late in doing this update.

Britannica has some details: “In December 2011, after evaluating the testimony of a young boy who claimed that his infection with flesh-eating bacteria disappeared after he prayed for her intercession, Pope Benedict XVI recognized Tekakwitha as a saint. She was canonized the following October.”

According to catholic.org, St. Kateri is the “patroness of ecology and the environment, people in exile, and Native Americans.”

Brooks and Dunn: Why They Split Up … Reunited! (2020 Update). We are republishing this post eleven years later simply to note that the duo are together again. Yay! They reunited in 2015 and were inducted last year to the Country Music Hall of Fame.

They were supposed to go on tour this year but, as with other big events that involves the gathering of people, it was disrupted by Miss Rona. They rescheduled the tour to 2021 so let’s keep our fingers crossed that things will be better by then.

Elvis Presley Underwear in the Army. Here are more underwear photos of the rock and roll king taken when he enlisted as a soldier in the army. Apparently, according to mashable.com, the different branches of the U.S. Armed Forces vied against each other by offering incentives to Elvis to join their ranks.

The singer, who was already famous at the time, declined the juicy offers and enlisted instead like an ordinary citizen and served as a private. Mad respect to the guy. We hope celebrities these days follow his example. He served for two years from March 1958 to March 1960.

It’s about the rivalry between two biker gangs and how they terrorize a small town in America.

Muhammad Ali Watch, Boxing Gloves, Sunglasses (updated from original 14 August 2010 post). Vintage watch advertisement featuring the greatest boxer of all time, Muhammad Ali. The watch above appears to have been manufactured by a company called Depraz Faure America Corp. We can’t find anything about this manufacturer but there’s a Swiss watch company called Dubois Dépraz which must have been the parent company for the American branch.

Specifically, he is representing his country in the 3-meter springboard event at the 1990 Commonwealth Games held in New Zealand. It’s fair to say that he’s a “splashy” diver, no?
