Kei Nishikori Wife Update. Apparently, the Japanese tennis superstar has tied the knot last December 2020 with long-time girlfriend Mai Yamauchi. From asia.nikkei.com: “Japan’s Kei Nishikori married 29-year-old former model Mai Yamauchi last week, the former world No. 4 men’s singles player announced Friday on his personal app.”
The two, who registered their marring on 11 December 2020, have been dating for five years and and she had been accompanying him and supporting him on tour and at Grand Slam events. No wedding photos, unfortunately but here are photos of Kei and Mai:
A few months later in May 2021, Kei announced on Twitter that they are expecting a baby: “Mai and I are excited to announce that later this year we will add a little minion.” Yay! Congratulations to them!!!

We thought the next big Asian tennis star would be Lu Yen-hsun but Lu has not been making any noise lately while Kei has risen from relative obscurity all the way to the top in men’s tennis. He is currently ranked #12 in the world but he ranked #9 just a month ago, 12 May 2014.

Because of his winning ways (5 singles titles and counting), Kei has already amassed a total of $5,209,445 in prize money. However, because he is the most visible Asian male tennis player and because he is from Japan which has big companies willing to sponsore him, Kei has huge endorsement deals.
Forbes Magazine ranks Kei as the 10th top-earning tennis player in the world (based on prize winning and endorsements) after Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, Li Na, Victoria Azarenka, Andy Murray, and Caroline Wozniacki.

The 23 year old enjoyed his best year on tour to date, amassing nearly $1.5 million in prize money from June 2012 to June 2013 (the period FORBES uses to value the world’s highest-paid athletes). While impressive, these on-court earnings are dwarfed by his endorsement portfolio. Adding appearance fees and exhibitions, FORBES pegs Nishikori’s off-court haul at $9 million during the same time.
Nishikori is a sponsor’s dream for a few reasons. At the tender age of 23 he’s easily the best male to ever play the sport from Japan. His steady but assured rise in the rankings the last few years suggests to fans and advertisers that the best is yet to come. A spokesperson at UNIQLO, one of Kei’s sponsors, said, “his popularity and wide appeal, both in Japan and abroad, is a perfect match for us.”

The number of advertisers Nishikori has landed is unheard of for someone who hasn’t vaulted to the top ranking or bagged a Grand Slam. “The top five, 10 players soak up the majority of sponsorships. In addition to a long-term deal with Uniqlo, Nishikori has Wilson, Adidas and Tag Heuer in his corner. He also has deals with Weider Supplements, Jaccs , Nissin, EA Game, Air Weave and WOWOW—yeah, wow.

Beautiful girl! As we’re writing this Kei has made it to the third round in Wimbledon. We hope he continues winning all the way to the crown. It would be a historic event if an Asian guy wins Wimbledon. His next opponent is Italian Simone Bolelli. We look forward to watching the match on the telly (as you Brits call it).
