Straight Men Speedo Swimsuits. Do men still wear Speedo swimsuits to the beach? We know some of our gay friends still love them their Speedos but is this iconic outfit now passe’ among the straight guys’ community? Simon Doonan of Slate Magazine asked a similar question a year ago:

Summer is here, and again I am seething with frustration. Why? Every year I scan the beaches for men in Speedos and every year I am disappointed. The ridiculous board-shorts trend shows no sign of waning.

I had high hopes for change after last year’s Olympics, when the entire nation was gripped by the spectacle of those jackknifing water sprites in their micro-briefs. (Those preposterously teensy swim skivvies worn by Tom Daley et al could only be explained by some kind of harsh polyester-rationing scheme: “Sorry, boys, but only 1 square inch of fabric per customer. Don’t worry. It is quite stretchy.”)

I just assumed that, come this summer, one might see an increased willingness on the part of the U.S. male to embrace a little European savoir-faire. But, yet again, all I see are men in billowing shorts.

Thankfully, there are still lots of brave men out there who love them their skimpy Speedo swimtrunks. We’ve blogged about them in the past (such as these Movie Stars in Speedos) but here’s a list of Ten Straight Guys Rocking Their Speedos:

Brent Moloney. Also known as “Beamer”, this Speedo-wearing cutie is an Australian rules footballer who currently plays for the Brisbane Lions.

Corey Parker. Corey is a co-captain for the Brisbane Broncos of the National Rugby League.

Josh Gibson. Third in our list of straight men Speedo hunks is Josh Gibson, defender for the Hawthorn Football Club.

Josh Kennedy. Ahh, Josh, how can we not love you? Josh P. plays for the Sydney Swans. You should not confuse him with other Josh Kennedy’s such as another rugby player Josh J. who plays for the West Coast Eagles and soccer player Josh B.

Lance “Buddy” Franklin. Forward Buddy Franklin plays for the Sydney Swans in the AFL.

Luke Grant. Luke Grant was featured in the steamy and controversial male pin-up calendar, Gods of Football, 2009 edition.

Quade Cooper. Ahh, Quade, our Kiwi imaginary boyfriend. This 26-year-old rugby stud plays for the Queensland Reds in the Super Rugby competition.

Shane Mumford. Drafted in 2008 by Geelong, Shane now plays for the Greater Western Sydney Giants.

Travis Cloke. Travis plays for the Collingwood Football Club in the Australian Football League or AFL.

Zoltan Mesko. 28-year-old American footballer who played for the Cincinnati Bengals last year. He is now a free agent.

So who is your favorite Ten Straight Men Speedo Hunk? Ours is Zoltan Mesko because his photo is interesting and weird. Hehe.
