We recently watched the movie version with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt but we still haven’t seen the television series which, apparently, is really good. It is so good, in fact, that it has a near-universal positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes (99% for season 1 and 100% for season 2).

Apart from the glowing ratings, another reason to watch the show would be the hunky guys playing vampires like Jacob Anderson who plays the lead character, Louis de Pointe du Lac. This being an Anne Rice vampire property, our Jacob goes romantic with another vampire (Lestat de Lioncourt) played by Sam Reid.

In an interview with esquire.com, the actor talks about what attracts us to vampire stories: “I think there’s something about living in the shadows that connects to our own darkness and our own desires. It also connects to the things that we’re ashamed of, because vampires have to hide. It’s a lonely existence, but they so crave contact and connection and intimacy. There’s a human impulse there. The things we fear about ourselves burst out in these bits of impulse or despair or torture—it’s irresistible, because it speaks to something that we don’t really talk about. There’s something about vampires that feels sordid, but they’re intensely human.”
