Apparently, he is married now and is raising a family with Karine Benezech who is also a French pole vaulter.

Now, here are some still photos of Romain who became a worldwide sensation when he ran clothes-free in the streets of Paris to raise money for his athletic endeavors after his Nike sponsorship expired.

To date, our French pole vaulting hottie’s medal stack include a one European Athletics U23 Championships gold medal, two World Championship silvers, one World Indoor Championship bronze, one European Championship silver, and one Universiade bronze. Hmm, that’s a nice pole you’re holding.

Romain Mesnil Hot French Pole Vaulter Runnng in the Buff (30 March 2009). We gotta give props to athletes who are making their sport very interesting. First Swedish golfer Henrik Stenson created a sensation by golfing in his underwear. Now we have French pole vaulter Romain Mesnil running au natural through the streets of Paris. Why did he do it?

Reuters reports: “Romain Mesnil, who won a silver medal at the 2007 Athletics World Championships in Osaka, used to be sponsored by U.S. sports brand Nike (NKE.N) but says his contract expired last year and was not renewed. ‘It was probably for budgetary and strategic reasons. It’s the crisis,’ he wrote on his website. The video has succeeded in drawing attention to Mesnil’s plight, at least in France. It was broadcast on primetime state television news bulletins.”

Good for Mesnil. We hope he gets another sponsorship.
