Famous Men With Big Ears. After writing about Neil Patrick Harris’ surgery to pin back his ear, we decided to come up with a list of celebrities who, like the divine NPH, are blessed (or cursed) with big ears. So let’s begin our list of Ten Famous Men With Big Ears.
Daniel Craig: Did you know that he is self-conscious about the size of his ears? In an interview with Time Out London, he talked about the craft of acting… and then he kinda mentioned something about his ears. Quote: “Me and my very close friend call it “modelling”. I don’t find myself particularly good at it. But you find yourself having to model sometimes in movies. It’s kind of that…If you’re too aware of yourself I think it goes wrong, I really do. As long as my ears don’t stick out too much, I’m happy. The greatest asset to an actor is their ego, but it’s also their greatest enemy.”
President Barack Obama: During the launch of stopbullying.gov, President Obama revealed that he was bullied as a kid because of his name and the size of his ears.
Here’s what the President said: “I have to say that with big ears and the name that I have, I wasn’t immune. I didn’t emerge unscathed. If there’s one goal of this conference, it’s to dispel the myth that bullying is just a harmless rite of passage or an inevitable part of growing up.
Bullying can have destructive consequences for our young people. As adults, we can lose sight of how hard it can be sometimes to be a kid. It’s easy for us to forget what it’s like to be teased or bullied, but it’s also easy to forget the natural compassion and the sense of decency that our children display each and every day when they’re given a chance.”
Neil Patrick Harris before he had his ear-pinning surgery or otoplasty. You can read more about NPH’s otoplasty in our earlier post: Neil Patrick Harris Otoplasty.
Ross Perot: During his failed presidential runs, people used to make fun of Ross Perot because of a) his big ears and/or b) his “too out there” ideas. You can laugh all you want and point at his ears but the guy is super-rich and is worth $3.5 billion according to Forbes Magazine.
Channing Tatum: One of the hottest guys of Hollywood has a pair of big ears but not a lot of people notice because they are blinded by his gorgeous face.
Will Smith: The Hollywood A-Lister says he is the perfect choice to play President Obama in a movie because they both have big ears. Here’s what he says about playing the President (via BBC): “People see the ears and Barack and I both have the ears, so I’m the most natural choice. I told [Obama] jokingly, ‘It’s definitely something I would consider, you just have to write the ending.’ So he’s working on the ending right now.”
Jim Carrey: One of the cool things about having big ears is that you can wiggle them as Jim Carrey did in the movie Ace Ventura.
Gary Lineker: We gotta give credit to Gary Lineker for asking his Twitter followers to send him ear jokes one of which went, “What did one ear say to the other ear? Between you and me, something smells.” Hehe.
The ex-football star turned-sports broadcaster revealed in 2012 that he considered getting an otoplasty (the procedure that Neil Patrick Harris did to pin back his ears) but he never went to the doctor: “I’ve never had any (plastic surgery), or indeed Botox, despite what some people may think. Two years ago I considered getting my comedy ears pinned back, but I keep dithering about it.”
Prince Charles. The future King of England is famous not only because of his position in the world’s most famous royal family but also because of his prominent ears.
Russel Tovey. The Being Human actor has this to say about his ears: “A common misperception of me is that I’ve got big ears. I’ve actually got quite small ears, it’s just that they stick out.”
That’s it for now, Famewatchers. Do you know of any other celebrity who should have been included in our list of famous men with big ears? Do tell in the comments. We will do a post like this focusing on famous women with big ears so watch out for that in the coming days or weeks.
