Why is a peacoat called a peacoat? If you are like us, you’d have wondered why a peacoat is called such. To quote our friend Kevin, “It does not in any manner or form or color resemble a pea so why is a peacoat called a peacoat?”

Good thing our internet friend who knows practically everything (he goes by the name Wiki Pedia) has the answer:

“The term “pea coat” originated from the Dutch or West Frisian word pijjekker, in which pij referred to the type of cloth used, a coarse kind of twilled blue cloth with a nap on one side.”

So there you go! You now know the origin of the name of this fabulous coat. We thank our Dutch friend for giving us the peacoat.
