Rolex Cellini Vintage Watch: White Gold, Yellow Gold, Platinum Watches. Let’s continue our catalogue of Rolex watch advertisements with these Rolex Cellini watches. The models include 18 carat white gold, 18k yellow gold, and platinum watches.
The Cellini line is the “dress watch” from the venerable Swiss brand and it is reportedly named as an homage to Italian sculptor Benvenuto Cellini.
2017 Update: Here are more vintage ads for Rolex Cellini watches. The first one is from 1982 and, in part, reads: “Benevuto Cellini is the pride of our profession and it is only right that we should take off our hats both to his work and to him.” The ad goes on to describe how the artist perfected new methods of engraving, casting metal, and setting gems which, supposedly, matches Rolex’s “talents” so the company decided to name a Rolex line after the Italian master sculptor.
Another vintage print advertisement for Rolex Cellini published in 1979.
Unlike in the case of other Rolex models, not a lot of celebrities were spotted wearing a Rolex Cellini watch. But we do have one famous athlete who wears a Cellini particularly the Rolex Cellini Danaos. Here’s golfing great Phil Mickelson playing his favorite game with a Danaos.

2020 Update: Just want to update this post to note than actually Benvenuto Cellini, the person for which the Rolex Cellini is named after, is not just a sculptor. He is way more than that.
Although his most famous works of art are sculptures — the Cellini Salt Cellar and Perseus with the Head of Medusa — he was, according to wikipedia, also a “goldsmith, draftsman, soldier, musician, and artist who also wrote poetry and a famous autobiography.”
He lived lived from 1500 to 1571 and is one of the most important artists of the Late Rennaisance.
