The 23-year-old Chinese American actress plays a lesbian character so convincingly on Netflix’s award-winning movie that some of you are wondering whether she is a friend of Ellen in real life. The answer: She ain’t. She is straight and actually has a boyfriend. His name is Payson Lewis and, like Leah, is also in the entertainment biz. He identifies as a singer on his Instagram account (@paysonlewis) but he is also an actor with, to date, 15 acting credits to his name on IMDB.

Now, when we first came across the photo below of Leah and Payson on Instagram (follow her @leahmlewis) and found out that they have the same last name we went like, “Oh, they’re married”. But then we got confused when we discovered afterwards that Leah is actually single and that her parents are Fred and Lorraine Lewis. So we were like, “Oh does this mean Payson took her last name?”

Husbands taking their wives’ surnames is not unheard of, by the way. It is actually kinda common in our circle but what they do is take each other’s family name and put them together. Among celebrity spouses, those who went for name blending include Carlos PenaVega and Alexa PenaVega, Marco Perego Saldana and Zoe Saldana, and — we were pleasantly surprised to find this out — Jay-Z actually took Beyonce’s last name so he is officially Shawn Knowles-Carter while his wife is officially Beyonce Knowles-Carter.

Anyhoo, back to Leah and her boyfriend with the same surname, she actually clarified the matter when a curious and understandably confused fan enquired about it. It turns out that Leah and Payson just so happened to have the same family name. Here’s what Leah wrote as a response: “Boyfriend with the same last name all on accident.”
