John F Kennedy Rolex Day-Date Watch. Let us add John F. Kennedy to our list of World Leaders Who Wear Rolex Watches. Specifically, JFK’s Rolex in the photo below is a Rolex Day-Date which is also known by its nickname, Rolex President.
As you can see in the engravings in the next two images, Kennedy’s Rolex watch was given to him as a gift by Marilyn Monroe.
Now, this is a message etched in time: Jack. With love as always. From Marilyn. May 29th 1962.
According to CBS News, the above John F Kennedy Rolex Day-Date watch was auctioned off in 2005 to the tune of $120,000.
Aside from JFK, other American presidents who wore the Rolex Day-Date aka Rolex President include World War II General-turned-President Dwight Eisenhower and Lyndon Baines Johnson or LBJ.
Here’s LBJ wearing his Rolex Day-Date.
President Johnson likewise owned a Rolex Yellow Gold Datejust watch which he is seen wearing in the next photo below.
We are pretty sure other American presidents — aside from JFK, LBJ, and Ike — also own or owned Rolex Day-Dates. However we don’t have photos of them wearing said watches. We will update this post once we find them.
For those of you who wonder why the Rolex Day-Date is also known as the Rolex President, wikipedia has the answer for you:
The Rolex Day-Date is an officially certified, self-winding chronometer wristwatch notable for becoming the first wristwatch with a day-date function. Nicknamed the “Rolex President watch”, the Day-Date has long been synonymous with prestige, power, and exclusivity. In 1948, the Chairman of Rolex presented President Eisenhower with an 18kt yellow gold Datejust watch, one of the company’s exclusive watches, to celebrate the Allied victory over the Nazis in World War II. However, in 1956, Eisenhower’s watch needed a new bracelet. The new bracelet with a concealed clasp was nicknamed the “President’s bracelet”, but soon the Day-Date watch was also nicknamed the “President”. Most likely, this is because is the same year the Day-Date watch was introduced.
