And the lucky girl who will represent the Great White North in the Miss Universe 2009 contest is ….. Miss Canada Universe Mariana Valente. Congratulations, Mariana.
How did Mariana beat the other girls? Here’s how she did it in her own words:
“The strategy that I used was being myself, that’s all I could do. I went there trying to be myself and that’s what I did. I’m happy the judges were able to see that myself is a good thing. I think that they were able to see I’m a humble person, I’m real and I’m ready to represent Canada.”
Will Mariana equal the feat of Torontonian Natalie Glebova who bagged the Miss Universe crown in 2005? We’ll soon find out in August, eh?

It’s funny how she says she speaks fluent spanish!
But she doesn’t…and even when she was interviewed in Colombia she only answered in english! Nice spanish skills.
Knowing yes or now doesn’t count!!!
Totally insulted the spanish speaking people!
