Pinoys in American Idol

The Inquirer is reporting that David Archuleta is of Filipino descent? Really? Or is that just wishful thinking? Filipinos have very little to cheer about so they keep on looking out for people to idolize no matter how tenuous their Pinoyness.

Now even if Archuleta is indeed of Filipino descent, will he embrace his Pinoyness and be proud of it? Or will he be like those Pinoys in the U.S. who are ashamed to admit that they are Filipinos so they pretend to be Spanish, or Chinese, or Japanese, etc. etc.

Ratings Game: Angel Locsin, Lobo are Big Flops

Now it can be told. Whatever delusions Angel Locsin had about her star power must have been brought to earth by the low rating of Lobo, her first show with ABS-CBN. It didn’t even breach the 30s. Naka 27.7 lang. Ang to think that her GMA shows were in the high 30s and even breaching the 40s at times.

It was stupid of Angel to move to ABS-CBN. It was stupider of course for her to burn the bridges with GMA and antagonize her former network. Had she left GMA properly, she would have the option of returning if things didn’t work out with ABS-CBN.

Pinoy Idol Judges II

I said earlier that I don’t know much about Wyngard Tracy. Now, according to the Inquirer he is a person who apparently speaks his mind so he’s kind of the Pinoy version of Simon Cowell. So Jolina is supposedly Paula lite while Ogie Alcasid, with his recording industry experience, will be the Randy Jackson in this side of the world.

Let’s see how the three judges measure up. I hope I’m proven wrong in my earlier assessment that they do not seem to be interesting enough characters who could make the show more worth watching. As I said, American Idol is a pretty good reality show because we also wonder about and look forward to seeing what the judges will do.

American Idol Auditions: San Diego Recap

Huh that was truly a boring episode of American Idol. It’s quite a downer after the excitement and the weirdness (Hello Renaldo Lapuz) of the previous week. I thought San Diego will be weirder since California is kind of the land of the weird but the weirdest we saw in this audition is that fan-carrying fan.

I also thought that we will be seeing more talented singers but we saw just about four or six of them. What’s up with that? I should have just gone ahead and went clubbing for the night instead of opting to watch American Idol.
